Lafeber, a first-round co-leader, finished 36 holes at 13-under 131 and is two strokes clear of Mikko Ilonen, who carded a four-under 68 on Friday at Oceanico Victoria Golf Course. Lafeber was one of three leaders after Thursdays opening round, but trailed Ilonen when Lafeber finally teed off in the afternoon wave. Lafeber kept the hot streak going with a birdie at the par-five third. He added birdies at five and six for the second round in as many days, but he lost a stroke with a bogey at the par-three eighth. Lafeber birdied two of his first three holes on the second nine to reach 14- under par. He had decent looks at birdie at 14, 15 and 16, but came away empty-handed. At the par-five 17th, Lafeber found water, but still had six feet to save par. His putt stayed above ground and the bogey dropped him back to 13-under par for the tournament. Lafeber parred the last for his second-round lead. "I knew it was going to be a bit easy today," acknowledged Lafeber. "I know from the last few years that its a golf course that you can make quite a lot of birdies, and I did that, especially yesterday, a lot of birdies and today I got off to a great start, so Im really happy with how Im playing." Lafeber, whose only tour victory was in 2003, is 100th in the Race to Dubai. Hes guaranteed his European Tour card for next year, but hes trying to get into the Dubai World Championship in November and needs to get into the top 60. "Ive been very consistent this year," said Lafeber. "Ive only missed three cuts, but I havent had four good rounds. I just kept on working hard and I found my putting touch the last couple of weeks and it shows. "Obviously I want to finish high and I feel like I should be a lot higher in the Race to Dubai. Hopefully in the next few weeks I can still pull it off to get to Dubai and that would be great." First-round co-leader Robert Karlsson only managed a one-under 71 on Friday and is tied for fifth place with Richard Finch (65), Pablo Martin (68), David Dixon (67), David Howell (68) and David Horsey (69).
