unscarred
It is better that a man should struggle with himself
To wrestle within him a beast
To give upon his chin an iron fist
It is better this, than to comfort himself as he is
For if he had not
But to lay with himself in gluttonous vain
He had not to know himself at all,
For self is born of pain
Upon contractions of doubt, humility, and battle lost
His pride set out, his pride his cost
But let his shame become his ally
For when upon it a man finds himself a bruised breast
And so a man unscarred
Is the man that had not known himself
