I am wondering what you all think about our poz community claiming SSI. I was told by more than one person I should give up work and just take SSI. I've never really considered it....your thoughts?

I think it is a great idea if you are unable to work, be productive, and take care of yourself.... basically when you need it.  But if you are able to fully work and carry a job with benefits you should be a productive part of society not only for yourself and your self worth but for everyone around you.

I agree w/ Tallon.  If one is able to work, they should.  However, if the job does not provide for health care insurance, then there might be state assistance for the employed for those without health insurance.

Employment does give some a sense of belonging and usefulness.  Of course, volunteering full-time can do the same.
