The Bipolar Wellness Network is a part of Wayside Ministries of the West ( a 501(c)3 tax exempt agency)
We work in areas that are not being met by other peer providers:
1. Self Transformational Empowerment Programs (STEP)
2. Suicide Paradigm Project
3. The Arizona Advocacy Clearinghouse.
My personal story is that I have lived with bipolar since elementary school but was not diagnosed until age 34. The condition reaked havoc in my life and ministry. I was ordained in 1970 at Scottsdale, Arizona and served as missionary to the White Mountain Apache Nation and also throughout Mexico. My bipolar symptoms effected my ministry greatly and I pulled out. In 1989, I began a ministry to a private locked psychiatric hospital in Eureka Ca. and also at the county ward. I founded 4 different chapters for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance throughout Humboldt County Ca. and also throughout AZ. I was the founder of DBSA Arizona State Chapter.
As a gay man, I find much of my work is with the gay communtity helping them to discover their true identities and find meaning and purpose in life. I am the only peer who has been allowed in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Phoenix to hold a group for inpatient veterans. I find it very rewarding. I also facilitate a glbtq peer support group. Maybe, I can be of help to you?
